This year's Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce Report Card of the school district may lack the letter-grade system of previous years, but it is not lacking in its articulation that Metro Nashville Public Schools must improve. The Report Card, officially released today, highlights many successes of the district, including the extremely high quality of education at academic magnet schools and the work of “outstanding" teachers, administrators and staff who work throughout the system. However, the majority of the Report Card is devoted to the need for immediate improvement — and possibly for “systemic interventions" — considering the district's current status under federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation. “It is now time to consider systemic interventions or strategies that may be considered unconventional or even radical," the Report Card states.
